La nuit des chauves-souris urbaines
Event Presentation: Bat Night at Belvédère Park
As part of the 29th edition of International Bat Night, the Friends of Belvédère Association is pleased to host, for the 14th consecutive year, a special evening dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation of these fascinating creatures, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Belvédère Park in Tunis.
This free, public event offers a program that combines education, science, and wonder, designed for all audiences:
-
Fun and educational workshops for children:
Bat mask making, nature games, sound quizzes, storytelling sessions… Playful activities to help young participants learn, discover, and overcome common misconceptions about bats. -
Popular science talk:
A talk by a bat expert explaining the ecological importance of bats in urban areas (pollination, insect regulation, etc.), the threats they face, and how we can support their conservation. -
Nocturnal bat walk:
After sunset, participants will join a guided walk in the park to observe bats in flight, with an introduction to bat sound detection using special ultrasonic devices.
Concept Note:
In a time of increasing urbanization and biodiversity loss, it is essential to rethink how we relate to nature in cities. Bats—often misunderstood or feared—are in fact key indicators of healthy ecosystems.
Through this event, we aim to transform public perception, especially among children, by showcasing the vital role of bats and encouraging respectful coexistence. A hands-on, educational, and sensory experience can help nurture a deeper urban ecological awareness and inspire concrete actions to protect shared habitats.
