Para Lá do Mito: à Descoberta dos Morcegos das Minas de Santo Adrião

Type of event:
Bat Walks & Observation
Event presence:
In person

This is a twilight and nighttime activity that invites participants to explore the wonders of nocturnal nature, set in the mysterious atmosphere of natural caves and old stone-extraction tunnels.
During the activity, participants will be introduced to the basic concepts of bat biology and ecology (Chiroptera), helping them become familiar with the crucial role bats play in ecosystems, the threats they face, and the importance of their conservation.
The setting — a unique underground landscape of rocky passages and hidden chambers — provides the perfect backdrop for an immersive experience.
Participants will also have the opportunity to step into the shoes of a bat biologist, discovering the diversity, ecological roles, and evolutionary adaptations of the bats observed, as well as their distribution and some of the monitoring techniques commonly used in scientific research. All of this will be explored through a dynamic blend of theory and fieldwork — in direct contact with nature and science.
