International Bat Night in Vratsa

Type of event:
Educational,
Festivals
Event presence:
In person

This year we celebrated the Bat holiday together with three schools from Vratsa. Those who attended learnt how bats are called in the different countries and why, how to know there is a bat in the house, where bats hide, how to make a mask and origami yourself. Different methods for making and setting up bat houses were described.
We explained the process of echolocation by playing with the children. They also learned what different species of bats eat. Our aim was to show that bats are not scary at all, but different and sympathetic. 33 of all 35 bat species in Europe are to be seen in Bulgaria and all of them are insectivorous.
