The Jülich Citadel with it’s vast network of tunnels and casemates is one of the premier bat roosting places in the Jülich area. Studies of bat populations have been going on here for 20 years. In 2004 the project “Naturschutz im Denkmal Zitadelle” (nature conservation in the monument Citadel) was initiated to merge the protection of the bats with the preservation of the monument. The International Batnight in the Citadel presents guided tours to the roosts in the Citadel and to the hunting grounds at the banks of the near river Rur and presents a rare chance to see live how bats are caught, examined an marked by scientists. A varied program for kids will be offered in the late afternoon and early evening. Refreshments will be available.
