Did you know that Lopez Island is home to at least 10 species of bats including several rare and unusual bats such as Townsend's Big-Eared Bat and Long-Eared Myotis? In fact, thousands of bats make Lopez their home feasting on mosquitoes, flies and moths. Learn more about Lopez Island's most diverse and abundant group of native mammals! Russel Barsh of KWIAHT presents this remarkable lecture with slideshow and accompanying "bat music". Following the lecture Russel will host an optional field trip to Hummel Lake. (Carpooling is encouraged and recommended). Hummel Lake is conveniently located near the library and is a key center for bat activity on Lopez Island. The field trip is timed at dusk to watch the bats and listen to their sounds. As the summer of 2014 concludes join us for an evening devoted to these beautiful "other" year-round Lopez residents.
