Chiroptera: Bats in the Abbey of Lucedio - 11 and 25 July 2014, h. 21.30 (reservations required).
Bats are the silent witnesses of summer nights and chose the Abbey of Lucedio as their home for the quiet, plenty of space to stay and the proximity of natural environments where they can feed easily. We invite you to get to know these creatures so ill-treated, with an unjustified reputation and unfortunately increasingly rare: their real demerits are the nightlife, a limited attractiveness and the inability to make sounds that humans can hear, but they are more like us than we think. The meeting with bats will take place inside the Abbey of Lucedio, through the observation of the flight paths, listening to the ultrasound emitted during the search of prey and a short safe distance visit to the place where they take refuge during the day. Afterwards there will be a presentation on the fundamental aspects of bats, such as characteristics, behaviors, biology, legends and folk beliefs, with some notes on the colony and its future. The evening will be opened by the Abbey guided tour (h. 20.30, reservations required) and at the same time will set up an educational workshop for children.

I pipistrelli sono i silenziosi testimoni delle notti estive ed hanno scelto l’Abbazia di Lucedio come loro dimora per la tranquillità, l’abbondanza di spazi in cui soggiornare e la vicinanza di ambienti naturali dove possano nutrirsi facilmente. Vi invitiamo a conoscere queste creature così maltrattate, dall’ingiusta reputazione e purtroppo sempre più rare: i loro reali demeriti sono la conduzione di una vita notturna, una limitata avvenenza e l’incapacità di emettere suoni che gli umani possano udire, ma sono molto più simili a noi di quanto non crediamo. L'incontro con i pipistrelli avverrà all'interno dell'Abbazia di Lucedio, attraverso l'osservazione delle traiettorie di volo, l'ascolto degli ultrasuoni emessi durante la ricerca delle prede e una breve visita a distanza del luogo in cui si rifugiano durante il giorno. Seguirà una presentazione sugli aspetti fondamentali dei pipistrelli, quali le caratteristiche, i comportamenti, la biologia, le leggende e le credenze popolari, con alcuni cenni sulla colonia e sul suo futuro. La serata sarà aperta dalla visita guidata all’Abbazia (ore 20.30, su prenotazione) e contemporaneamente sarà allestito un laboratorio didattico per i bambini.
