Bat Encounter and Dinner at Gliffaes Country House Hotel
Bat Encounter and Dinner at Gliffaes Country House Hotel
On International Bat Night, a privileged opportunity to watch and listen to Gliffaes Hotel’s very special residents.
Gliffaes Hotel is home to at least three different bat species including a breeding colony of around 200 rare lesser horseshoe bats. Dr Jane Sedgeley from the Vincent Wildlife Trust will provide a short indoor talk to introduce this fascinating little bat and this will be followed by supper of Steak Frites* and a glass of wine.
After supper we will go outside to view the bats as they exit from high on the roof and come tumbling down the walls then flying off behind the hotel along the bottom terrace and on towards the river. We’ll use bat detectors to listen to their strange warbling echolocation calls, and may even be able to see bats at close range as they perch in the terrace alcoves before flying off to hunt. We will then return to the hotel for Chocolate Brownies, Coffee and a glass of port.
We have space for 16 ‘bat enthusiasts’ for this evening. Please arrive at Gliffaes by 7.15pm. Wear suitable outdoor shoes and bring a sweater.
Cost per head £25. Please call us to book on 01874 730 371. Or book tickets on line through our secure Gift Voucher system.
*If you are vegetarian please let us know when you book.
