IBN at Fort Oelegem

The Flemish Youth League for the Study and Conservation of Nature "NATUUR 2000" (founded 1967) organises the European Bat Night on Saturday August 25th at 21:00  at Fort Oelegem, Goorstraat 18 at BE2520 Oelegem, 5 minutes drive from Exit 19 of the E34 highway Antwerpen-Eindhoven.

"NATUUR 2000" manages the bat reserve Fort Oelegem since 1984. Each year some 1100 bats find their hibernation spots  in the fortress, amongst them some 400 Myotis nattereri and some 100 Myotis emarginatus.

At the occasion of the European Bat Night, the warden will give the participants first some briefing on the Fort Oelegem bat population, after that they will be guided through the fortress, being showed the main hibernating spots. At the end of the evening the participants will be able to observe the insect hunting bats on the canal surounding the fortress.
